Wiradjuri and Gamilaroi guard Will 'Davo' Hickey has completed his latest NBA Summer League campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers after another step in his push toward the NBA.

The Illawarra Hawks championship winner joined the Lakers for the Las Vegas Summer League after previously signing with the club's G League affiliate, South Bay Lakers.

The Lakers finished with a strong Summer League run, going 2-1 at the California Classic before winning their first four games in Las Vegas.

Their tournament ended in the semi-finals, where they were beaten 92-88 by the Golden State Warriors.

His best scoring game came in the Lakers' Las Vegas opener against Oklahoma City, where he finished with nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal in a 96-84 win.

Hickjey also had seven rebounds in the Lakers' 105-82 win over Chicago.

His best passing game came during the California Classic, when he had seven assists in the Lakers' 93-91 win over Miami.

Across the five Las Vegas games, Hickey averaged 4.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 14.1 minutes.

He had earlier averaged 2.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists across two California Classic appearances.

Speaking to former Sydney King and NBL Commentator Brad Rosen, Davo reflected on the need to be confident and his role among the squad.

"Confidence is everything... Once you get a taste of it you can understand 'I feel I can be out there and I can help contribute to winning," he said.

"Trying to keep the guys in order and getting them the ball in the right spots... being realistic coming into a side like this is trying to help guys who are already here.

"If I can walk away and say I've done a good job of that then I'm happy."

The Koorie Academy backed Hickey before the tournament, describing his Lakers opportunity as a major moment for Indigenous basketball.

"We are incredibly proud of Davo and this incredible opportunity with the Los Angeles Lakers," Koorie Academy's Ricky Baldwin said.

"Davo embodies the spirit and mission of the Koorie Academy, inspiring young Indigenous athletes to pursue their dreams."

While Hickey used the tournament to continue building his NBA case, the Lakers moved after the Summer League to sign forward Arthur Kaluma to a two-way contract.

ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania reported the Lakers were signing Kaluma, a six-foot-seven forward from the South Bay program, after his Vegas campaign.

Kaluma averaged 18.6 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 61.0 per cent from the field and 50.0 per cent from three-point range in Las Vegas.

Hickey's Summer League campaign followed a strong period for club and country, with the guard also part of the Australian Boomers team who won the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup.

Hickey is contracted to return to the Hawks for the 2026-27 NBL season after helping Illawarra win the NBL25 championship.
