A new Medicare urgent care clinic has opened in Darwin, with patients able to walk in and all services bulk billed.

Located at 8 Osgood Drive in Eaton, the Darwin Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (MUCC) will operate extended hours seven days a week and is designed to ease pressure on Royal Darwin Hospital, where nearly half of patient admissions last year were for non-urgent or semi-urgent conditions.

The new clinic is one of nine MUCCs across the Northern Territory, with doctors and nurses trained to treat a range of non-life-threatening medical conditions.

"The new Darwin Medicare Urgent Care Clinic means more Territorians are living closer to the healthcare they need," Minister for Indigenous Australians Malarndirri McCarthy said.

"With extended hours and all services bulk billed, this is great news for families and will also help take pressure off Royal Darwin Hospital."

Health Minister Mark Butler said the clinic was part of the government's "commitment to strengthen Medicare and make health care more accessible and affordable".

The government says more than three million patients have presented to MUCCs since the first sites opened in June 2023, including 118,000 presentations in the NT, with a quarter involving patients under the age of 16.

"Following on from the success of the Palmerston Medicare Urgent Care Clinic, which has recorded over 36,000 visits since its opening in October 2023, I welcome the opening of the Darwin Medicare Urgent Care Clinic," Solomon MP Luke Gosling said.

"It will take the pressure off Royal Darwin Hospital by providing walk-in care for urgent, non-emergency medical needs. No appointments required to get the care you need when you need it."
