Kaytetye producer and DJ RONA. will launch her new day party series 'Everywhen' with an all-Indigenous line-up at Footscray Community Arts in Naarm (Melbourne) on Saturday, December 5.
Presented by RRR, the first event will bring together electronic music, live performance and stories connected to Place, with RONA. creating a headline set specifically for the Footscray show.
The Mparntwe (Alice Springs)-based artist will draw on field recordings of birds, Country and waters, alongside stories and lived experiences connected to the Maribyrnong area.
The set is being developed through relationships with Elders and knowledge holders connected to the region.
RONA.'s approach begins with time on Country and the knowledge people want shared.
"It's a completely emergent way of working," RONA. said.
"Based on relationships and what contexts the set is being created in.
"I sit in Country with people, and build songs around knowledge and stories that people want me to share, always starting with the energy of a story, sound, and place, and writing in response to that."
Joining the line-up is Kamilaroi and Samoan artist Becca Hatch, who will perform live with her band, including material from her Black Flower Project EP, due in February 2027.
Ms Hatch combines R&B, electronic music and dance-pop, and won the 2024 National Indigenous Music Award for Best Breakthrough Artist.
The ARIA-nominated singer has also supported Tinashe and Mahalia and performed with Coldplay at two Sydney stadium shows in 2024.
Boorloo-based Wongi DJ and producer Yikes will bring a selection spanning genres, linked by deep, broken and percussive sounds.
Alongside festival appearances and his Friday Full Frequency program on RTRFM, Yikes shares his skills through a First Nations DJ course for young musicians.
Gunai/Kurnai, Gunditjmara, Wiradjuri and Yorta Yorta DJ Nayuka Gorrie, who performs as naycab, also joins the program.
Based in Naarm, naycab blends percussive bass and experimental electronic music, with appearances at Strawberry Fields and Pitch among their club and festival performances.
Their work beyond music includes writing, screenwriting and community work.
Wurundjeri, Dja Dja Wurrung, Ngurai Illum-Wurrung and Irish woman Stacie Nicholson-Piper will perform as Stacie.
A Djirri Djirri Dancer and public speaker for Wurundjeri Land Council, Ms Nicholson-Piper works across cultural dance, storytelling and curatorial practice.
Her connection to the possum drum honours the knowledge and guidance passed on by her late Aunty and mentor, Vicky Nicholson-Brown.
The program recognises the communities and networks each artist brings to their work, including connections across the Kulin Nation, with special guests also joining the first event.
RONA.'s own practice draws together desert Country, oral storytelling and club music, with releases including Closure, To the Ground and her 2025 It's All Here EP.
She has performed at festivals including Laneway, Pitch Music & Arts, RISING and Meredith Music Festival.
Her longer-term vision is to bring Everywhen home to Mparntwe, with the series centring First Nations and Indigenous artists alongside People of Colour from Australia and overseas.
Tickets for the Footscray event go on sale through Moshtix at midday Victorian time on Wednesday, October 21.
