'BAMA MARUKU BADIN BADERRI' is that latest musical project to come from Mossman in Far North Queensland, reflecting the Yalanji people's cultural connection to the land and sea.
'Bama Muruku' means bama (people) come together.
A number of genres including reggae, country, hip hop, folk, soul, and rock, are heard on the album which features 10 individual artists.
The project, produced and engineered by Paul Tyson and Reuben Dwyer at Uptown Daintree Studios, was funded by the 2023 Douglas Shire major grants program to support Mossman's artists and performers.
"Bama in Mossman have very few opportunities to record music as the cost is beyond most people," Mr Dwyer told National Indigenous Times.
"Being a relatively remote community distance to urban centres is also a factor.
"I got support letters from all the indigenous organisations in the town to apply for a major council grant (Douglas Shire Council) and thankfully they agreed that my idea to make a record that represented the amazing local talent was warranted."
The record took approximately 10 months to complete due to the immense travel efforts of getting each artist to Paul Tysons studio in the Daintree Rainforest.
"He (Paul Tyson) gave all his attention and professionalism to each artist to get the best performance from them," Mr Dwyer said.
"I could not choose a favourite track on the album, as they all sound amazing, and the range of styles from reggae, country and hip hop also make comparisons difficult."
"As the saying goes..if you can't see it you can't be it."
Mr Dwyer had some parting wisdom for young musicians who may face similar adversities as a young artist.
"Even though young musicians see TikTok and YouTube and have aspirations to be famous, the taste, sound and smell of local relatives, brothers and sisters making and playing great music at a professional level is a tangible concept, not just a dream."
"To be noticed and heard requires a product, be it sound or visual, and without that the opportunities are hard to come by, and that's why this album means so much for these performers."
"I'm personally so proud of the way many of them stepped up and against all the challenges of day to day life gave it a red hot go."
The album is available for listen or purchase through Bandcamp.
