Jessica Mauboy drops emotional pop track 'Flashback'

Joseph Guenzler -

ARIA Award-winning artist Jessica Mauboy unveiled her latest single, Flashback on Friday.

The song is part of her upcoming fifth studio album, 'YOURS FOREVER,' scheduled for release on February 9, 2024, through Warner Music Australia.

"'Flashback' is a song that holds a very special place in my heart - this song captures the exhilarating feeling of falling in love," said Mauboy.

Accompanied by a vibrant music video directed by Rowena Rasmussen and Joel Rasmussen, Flashback emerges as a captivating love song.

The official video features Mauboy amidst choreographed dancing and atmospheric lighting, delivering a blend of pure pop music.

"I wrote 'Flashback' with Nick Littlemore (PNAU), Toby Anagostis and James Gales," she said.

"We'd begin each session with all the lights in the studio turned off and start improvising together - the guys would lay down synth and guitar ideas while I freestyled melodies over the top.

"That day, Nick came into the vocal booth and gave me the prompt to write about my love story, the love I have now with my husband. How do you capture that undeniably big love and share that with the world?"

Flashback, follows her recent single Give You Love featuring international superstar Jason Derulo.

This emotionally charged pop release features Mauboy's powerful vocals, enriched by soulful elements like an organ, piano, and choir whose video for Give You Love directed by Rowena Rasmussen and Joel Rasmussen from Move Like Water received a 2023 ARIA Nomination for BEST VIDEO.

"The ARIA Awards hold a special place in my heart - It's a night I look forward to every year as it unites the entire music industry to honour and celebrate the incredible talent, creativity, and musical artistry that we are blessed with in this country," she said.

"It's also a whole lot of fun getting glammed up and reuniting with friends. I'm thrilled to be performing and presenting this year, what a buzz!"

Flashback and Give You Love are set to be included in Jessica Mauboy's upcoming album, YOURS FOREVER.

The 14-track album, written and recorded in Australia, mirrors a journey of self-discovery and empowerment for the Australian pop icon.

Jessica Mauboy is set to perform at The Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday, November 15, during the 2023 ARIA Awards, where she will also be involved in presenting duties for the evening.

The YOURS FOREVER National Tour by Jessica Mauboy kicks off in March next year, covering 22 dates across regional and metro cities in Australia throughout March, April, and May.

The tour also extends to Auckland on May 11, with tickets currently on sale.
