Human remains have been found inside a crocodile eight days after Adam Yunkaporta disappeared in Far North Queensland.

Mr Yunkaporta, an Aurukun man, was last seen leaving his home on January 30, reportedly heading to fish at the mouth of the Ward, Watson, and Archer Rivers.

The 60-year-old has not been seen since.

A large-scale search effort involving helicopters, drones, SES volunteers, wildlife rangers, police, and community-led foot and boat patrols was conducted over the past week.

On Wednesday, the operation shifted to a recovery phase, reducing hopes of finding him alive.

Police said the search was guided by intelligence and established search and rescue techniques.

On Friday night, police and wildlife officers located a crocodile along the Watson River.

Forensic testing on Saturday confirmed the presence of human remains inside the animal.

The man's family and the local council have been notified, and further testing will be conducted to confirm the identity of the remains.

Police have thanked the Aurukun community for their support and assistance during the search.
