The search for Arukun man Adam Yunkaporta, who has been missing for a week in crocodile-infested waters in Far North Queensland, has transitioned to a recovery mission, police confirmed on Wednesday.

Mr Yunkaporta, 60, was last seen leaving his home on January 30, believed to be heading to fish at the mouth of the Ward, Watson, and Archer Rivers.

Since being reported missing on February 1 extensive searches have been carried out by helicopters, drones, SES volunteers, wildlife rangers, police, and community-led foot and boat patrols.

Queensland Police provided an update to Mr Yunkaporta's immediate family and the Aurukun Shire Council before informing around 300 community members at the council chambers that the operation had moved to a recovery phase.

"The search is continuing, locals are being urged to avoid the boat ramp as police and wildlife officers conduct searches of the river," a police spokesperson said.

The recovery effort is taking place as Far North Queensland experiences widespread flooding.

The Bureau of Meteorology reported heavy rainfall across the region, with areas such as Emerald and Ingham receiving between 50mm and 150mm in the past 24 hours.

Authorities have asked members of the public with information to come forward, urging continued vigilance in the area.

Members of the public can provide anonymous information through Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000 or reporting online.
