Port Adelaide star Jason Horne-Francis says his consistency as a footballer is underpinning his success so far this season.

Now in his third year at the elite level, the Wardaman man has established himself as one of the most damaging players in the competition as the third-placed Power look to embark on another finals campaign.

Horne-Francis says producing his best football week-in and week-out has been his main focus this season.

"I feel like I've just started to get a bit of consistency around my footy, which is really pleasing," Horne-Francis told Port Adelaide Media.

"You don't want to be a highlight reel and I think maybe in previous years, I probably have been.

"I guess it's good to play some consistent footy now, I'm working a lot on my mindset stuff (especially for) in-game, when things aren't going well, that's main thing I'm probably focusing on at the moment."

Horne-Francis has been included in the AFL Players' Association's 22Under22 squad of 40 players after being controversially left out of last year's team.

The 21-year-old has averaged just under 22 disposals and 5.8 clearances per game, while also being damaging in the attacking half with 19 goals.

"It's my third year now and I had a good pre-season, and things are going well this year for us, we've put ourselves on a good spot on the ladder," he said.

"So that's really pleasing as well, everything around the club's just helping the fact that I'm probably getting more settled."

As Horne-Francis continues to develop as a footballer, the former number one draft pick has revealed his leadership aspirations, even if that does not entail an official role at the club.

"I feel like I'm a natural leader and I want to lead by example whenever I can," he said.

"So even if that's not the leadership group, whenever I can lead by example and help the young boys out, I'm always trying to.

"I'm sure, when the moment's right, Ken will ask me."

The powerful midfielder has been among the Power's best players on numerous occasions this season, including in last week's shocking demolition of the top-of-the-table Sydney Swans, in which he collected 27 disposals, included 15 contested, and a goal.

Despite his team's 112-point win, Horne-Francid is refusing to think past the match against Melbourne on Saturday night and is looking forward to playing at the MCG.

"It's obviously really pleasing, but I think you've just got to take it week after week," he said.

"We've got another good opponent coming up this week, so I guess we appreciate what we did on the weekend, but at the same time, we're quickly jumping to Melbourne this week."

"I'm sure the boys are really excited (to play at the MCG), that's where the GF is played so we need to get used to the ground if we want to be there."
