Thirteen Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations in the ACT will share $650,000 in funding to strengthen their operations and expand services for Indigenous communities.

The funding has been provided through the latest round of the ACT's ACCO Establishment and Expansion Fund, which supports community-controlled organisations to build capacity and improve service delivery.

The grants will support projects including establishment costs, service delivery vehicles, specialised equipment, evaluation and monitoring systems, and professional development.

Funding can also be used to strengthen volunteer and board capability.

The ACT Government said the program recognised the important role Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations play in designing and delivering services that respond to the needs of their communities.

Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Suzanne Orr said the increasing number of organisations applying for the program showed the importance of continued investment in the sector.

"It is vital Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can access culturally appropriate human services, delivered by organisations that understand and support the varied needs of community," she said.

"The successful delivery of services depends on them being culturally safe and relevant, respectful and engaging. The ACT Government remains committed to ensuring these services are supported."

The funding forms part of the government's commitments under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, including efforts to strengthen the Aboriginal community-controlled sector and support greater self-determination.

Among the organisations to receive funding are Aunty Time, Mura Mura Mayi Aboriginal Corporation, Nguru, Songlines Connections Aboriginal Corporation, Yarruwala Aboriginal Corporation and Yhurwun Bullan Aboriginal Corporation.

Burrunju Aboriginal Corporation, Worldview Foundation Limited, Gugan Gulwan Youth Aboriginal Corporation, Indigenous Allied Health Australia Limited, Thirrilli Ltd, Yeddung Mura (Good Pathways) Aboriginal Corporation and Yerrabi Yurwang Child & Family Aboriginal Corporation will also receive grants.

The $650,000 investment is additional to more than $8 million in new funding included in the ACT Government's 2026-27 Budget for Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations to deliver services.
