Former Australian Football Hall of Fame member Barry Cable has pleaded not guilty to alleged historic sexual abuse charges involving a young girl during his playing days.
The 80-year-old fronted a Perth court on Friday, after being charged last Friday.
Cable faced five counts of 'Indecent Dealing with Girl Under 13' and two counts of 'Unlawful Carnal Knowledge of a Girl Under 13 Years'.
Police allege the former footballer assaulted a girl aged between nine and 10 years old between 1967 and 1968.
Cable pleaded not guilty to all charges.
It's understood the complainant in the criminal charges is neither a woman awarded $818,700 in damages in a civil case against Cable last year, nor one of four other women who testified with similar allegations of abuse during the week-long trial.
Cable has denied the allegations made against him.
A criminal case requires a higher standard of proof compared to civil cases.
Cable is expected to return to court on August 8.
The ABC reports his bail has been renewed until his next appearance.
