A prisoner from West Kimberley Regional Prison, near Derby, has died in a Perth hospital.
The 34-year-old Aboriginal man collapsed during recreation activity at the prison on Saturday, 15 July.
The man was provided first aid and taken by ambulance to Derby Public Hospital. He was transferred the same day to Royal Perth Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
The Western Australian Department of Justice facilitated family members to be able to spend time with their loved one at the hospital. He passed away on Monday, the news of his death was made public on Wednesday.
The Department said on Wednesday that preliminary reports indicate there were no suspicious circumstances.
More than 500 Indigenous people have died in custody since the Aboriginal Deaths in Custody Royal Commission brought down its findings in 1991.
As is mandatory for all deaths in custody, WA Police will provide a report to the State Coroner.
