Following a national recruitment process, Reconciliation SA has appointed Ngarrindjeri man Clyde Rigney Jnr as its new chief executive officer.

Mr Rigney brings experience across Aboriginal community-controlled organisations and the reconciliation sector, including previously serving as chief executive officer of the Ngarrindjeri Regional Authority.

His work has included leadership, governance, community engagement and education, with a focus on strengthening partnerships and ensuring Aboriginal voices and knowledge are included in decision-making.

In his new role, Mr Rigney will lead Reconciliation SA's strategic direction, operations, partnerships and advocacy, working with the organisation's board, staff, members, communities and partners across South Australia.

Mr Rigney described the appointment as an opportunity to build on the organisation's existing work.

"I am deeply honoured to join Reconciliation SA and contribute to an organisation that has played such an important role in bringing people together and creating opportunities for meaningful reconciliation across South Australia," he said.

"Reconciliation is built through relationships, truth, respect and action.

"I look forward to listening and working alongside Aboriginal communities, our partners and the broader South Australian community to continue building stronger relationships and creating lasting change."

Reconciliation SA is South Australia's peak body for reconciliation, with its work spanning education, engagement, partnerships, advocacy and community-led action.

The organisation said Mr Rigney's appointment would begin a new phase as it seeks to expand its partnerships and reach across the state.

Reconciliation SA co-chairpersons, Emma Kokar and Jeremy Johncock, welcomed the appointment following what the organisation described as an extensive recruitment process.

Mr Johncock said Mr Rigney's background would support the organisation's next phase.

"Clyde brings a deep understanding of community, culture and the reconciliation movement, combined with extensive leadership experience and a strong record of building relationships across sectors," Mr Johncock said.

"Following a comprehensive national recruitment process, the Board is delighted to welcome Clyde as Chief Executive Officer.

"His appointment reflects our ambition to strengthen Reconciliation SA's leadership and continue building a movement that engages communities, governments, businesses and organisations across South Australia."

The board also acknowledged Shaun Childs, who served as acting chief executive officer during the recruitment process and organisational transition.

Mr Johncock credited Mr Childs with providing stability and continuity while the organisation searched for its next chief executive.

"On behalf of the Board, I extend our sincere appreciation to Shaun for the commitment, professionalism and leadership he has demonstrated," Mr Johncock said.

"His contribution has provided an important foundation for this next chapter and ensured Reconciliation SA remained focused on its people, partners and purpose throughout the transition."

Mr Rigney will now work with the board and organisation to continue its reconciliation programs and partnerships across South Australia.

"There is significant work ahead, and I am excited by the opportunity to help shape the next chapter of Reconciliation SA," he said.
