Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar Aboriginal Corporation has welcomed new chief executive Heidi Mippy, who officially commenced full-time in the role this week.
Ms Mippy is a Noongar and Thin-Mah Warriyangka woman with cultural ties to the South West and Upper Gascoyne regions of Western Australia.
Announcing the appointment, Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar Aboriginal Corporation (WKSNAC) said Ms Mippy is "a dynamic and culturally grounded leader with extensive experience in community development, land management, economic development, and Indigenous engagement".
"Heidi brings more than two decades of experience across government, academia, and the social enterprise sector, leading policy, partnerships, and strategic initiatives that have delivered social, cultural, environmental, and economic outcomes," the organisation said in a statement.
"Heidi's appointment comes at an important time as WKSNAC continues to strengthen community control, activate the Noongar Land Estate, and progress its journey of systemic transformation in pursuit of self-determination and long-term prosperity for Noongar people."
Ms Mippy said "it is both an honour and a privilege to lead Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar Aboriginal Corporation through this important period of Noongar nation-building".
"I have been part of the Settlement journey for many years and understand the significance of this responsibility," she said.
"I am committed to leading with integrity, respect, and purpose as we continue to create opportunities and achieve the best possible outcomes for our people, our communities, and future generations. Together, we will build on the strong foundations already established and continue advancing our vision for self-determination and prosperity."
Ms Mippy currently serves on the boards of the Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute, Impact Seed, the Zero Net Emissions in Agriculture Cooperative Research Centre, and the Healing Country Research Centre.
WKSNAC said her leadership experience, strategic vision, and extensive networks place the Corporation "in a strong position to advance its priorities and seize opportunities for future growth".
WKSNAC acknowledged Mr Justin McAllister for stepping into the acting role of chief executive through "a very significant time".
"We sincerely thank him for his contribution to WKSN during the recruitment and transition process. Justin has now returned to his substantive role as Manager Strategic Relationships."
