Cultural understanding initiatives are gaining traction within classrooms across Western Australian schools, helped by support from the state government's Partnership Acceptance Learning Sharing (PALS) programs.
The 2024-25 Term 4 round of the PALS program was announced Friday, with PALS supporting 21 WA schools with grants totalling $88,608. This funding has been designed to assist in the reconciliation efforts in WA schools.
With the assistance of these initiatives, students will be able to learn more about Aboriginal cultures, contribution and history.
Aboriginal Affairs Minister Dr Tony Buti said the Labor government has allocated more than $177,000 to over 40 schools in the 2024-25 funding rounds to enhance students' understanding of Aboriginal cultures.
"Gaining a deeper insight into the cultures, achievements and histories of Aboriginal people
helps school communities build better relationships with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal
community members," he said.
"This is a great funding round outcome, and I look forward to seeing the impact the PALS
program continues to have on WA communities."
The Term 1 2025 grant of this initiative further opens from 30 January 2025 and closes on 27 March 2025. It is going to be administered by the department of local Government, sport and cultural industries.
This funding will help school communities build better relationships with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community members by providing insights into Aboriginal cultures, achievements, and histories.
