Carl Douglas Junior may be small in stature, however his love for bull riding is taking him to big places.

A rising star in the rodeo world, Carl recently dominated last month's Normanton Rodeo, taking home three buckles for 1st Place in the Mini Bullride, 1st Place in the Calf Ride, as well as Junior All-Rounder Champion.

Following his success the opportunity of a lifetime has come knocking at the young boy from Kowanyama's door.

Carl has been selected by Borghero Mini Buckers to compete at the International Mini Bulls Association (IMBA) 2025 World Finals, to be held in Utah this September.

His talent, grit, and passion for the sport are undeniable, and Carl can't seem to hide his excitement about competing in the 8–10 age bracket, telling the Cairns Post he hopes to make his family proud.

"I start to do this because my dad did it when he was small and my cousin brothers do it," Carl said.

"…I just love bull riding."

City N Country, a clothing business in Cairns, is set to sponsor Carl at the IMBA, having supported him at local competitions in the past.

"We sponsor Carl at the local events already, he's just a great, talented little bull rider," they said, The Cairns Post reports.

"It's just nice to see kids getting involved in the sport from such a young age.

"It's amazing how much the community gets behind them."

However, international competitions come with big costs.

The family has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for travel, accommodation, and competition expenses.

On the page, they wrote, "no matter the size, your contribution brings this young champ one step closer to representing his community and culture on the world stage".

The IMBA World Finals will take place at Golden Spike Arena, Ogden, Utah from September 3–6.
