TAFE NSW has announced the appointment of Jason Ardler PSM to the TAFE Commission Advisory Board.
A Yuin man, Mr Ardler brings significant experience in government administration to the Board as well as a strong understanding of the vocational education and training sector, and a demonstrated history of working to improving outcomes for Aboriginal communities.
Mr Ardler has held senior executive roles in the NSW Government and university sector for more than 20 years, including eight years as Head of Aboriginal Affairs NSW.
He is the co-founder and Director of Thirriwirri, a 100 per cent Aboriginal-owned consulting firm, Chair of the National Indigenous Australians Agency's Indigenous Evaluation Committee, and a Director of the NAISDA Indigenous performing arts college.
Mr Ardler was also a panel member of the 2024 NSW VET Review, which delivered two major reports focused on building a more responsive, inclusive, and future-focused vocational education and training system.
"I'm honoured to join the TAFE NSW Board and contribute to shaping a more inclusive and responsive vocational education system," he said on Monday.
"TAFE NSW has a unique role in building strong, skilled communities and I look forward to contributing to the Board's work to ensure equity, access, and excellence for students and industry."
The appointment follows a recent recruitment process to fill current and future vacancies on the TAFE Commission Advisory Board, conducted in line with the NSW Government Boards and Committees Guidelines.
TAFE NSW Managing Director Chloe Read said Mr Ardler brings decades of leadership experience in Aboriginal affairs, workforce development and education reform, and will be "a powerful advocate for Aboriginal communities across NSW".
"Jason's leadership during the NSW VET Review demonstrated a deep understanding of the transformative role of vocational education and training in people's lives," she said.
"TAFE NSW plays a vital role in delivering skills and training to communities across the state, and it's essential that its leadership reflects the people it serves.
"This appointment will help ensure Aboriginal perspectives are embedded at TAFE NSW."
TAFE Commission Advisory Board chairperson Danny O'Connor TAFE NSW is "delighted" to welcome Mr Ardler to the Board.
"He is a highly respected leader who brings deep cultural insight and significant experience in public policy, education, and community development," he said.
