Adelaide Crows forward Shane McAdam said "you just can't recognise" areas he visited just weeks ago, following historic floods devastating the Kimberley.
Areas across northern WA have been torn apart in the weeks since the extremities of the weather began late last month.
Hundreds of homes have been destroyed and infrastructure and livelihoods wiped out.
McAdams grew up in Halls Creek, a small town nearby to where his family and friends live in Fitzroy Crossing, and extended his thoughts to those impacted across the region after witnessing the destruction from afar.
On Thursday the 27-year old Jaru and Kija man gave a heartbreaking insight into the situation at home.
"I've received a lot of photos and videos from family members, even talking on the phone to them, they're telling me stories," McAdam told Crows media.
"Looking at the photos and videos now, you just can't recognise some of the spots I've just been to a couple of months before.
"(The floods) happened just after Christmas, too, which is a sad time because it's meant to be joyful and you get a lot of gifts, especially for the younger kids.
"Now they've lost everything from the rains and the floods, it's very bad and very sad."
McAdams said it was good to see his family over Christmas, and sent his wishes with those from the wider club as the many remain stuck in their small towns.
"Most of them have lost a lot of things - they've lost homes and the town had to get shut down. A lot of people had to get evacuated from the town.
"I just want them to know (they're) in my thoughts, and everyone here at the Adelaide Football Club sends their best wishes.
"I know you're a strong community and that you'll come together and get through this."
