On Thursday March 16, Closing the Gap Day, the First Peoples Disability Network (FPDN) will launch the first ever podcast dedicated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disabilities.

Yarning Disability will be hosted by FPDN Advocate and experienced radio host, Bernard Namok Jnr, a proud St Paul, Badu, and Erub Torres Strait Islander man.

Namok Jnr. is the son of Bernard Namok Snr, who designed the Torres Strait Island flag in 1982.

He notes the first episode will feature his inspiring story detailing how he overcame major complications due to Meningitis along with a yarn from FPDN chief executive Damian Griffis.

Each episode of Yarning Disability will feature the story and experiences of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person living with a disability or caring for someone with a disability, as well as disability industry professionals.

"This podcast will be informative for the communities - all the people living with disabilities," Mr Namok Jnr said.

"All those topics like FASD, NDIS and accessibilities will be spoken about."

"And it's an opportunity for mob to share their experience and how they get around places."

FPDN National Training and Engagement Manager Carly Wallace says that Yarning Disability is a unique podcast not only in Australia but perhaps globally.

According to Ms. Wallace, "FPDN's work is to ensure the voices of First Peoples living with a disability are heard."

"We hope the stories that come from Yarning Disability will be a catalyst for change, not only in our community but systematically. We're proud to create this platform for our Mob with disabilities to tell their own powerful stories."

The first episode of Yarning Disability will be available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, iHeartRadio, Audacity, and other podcast streaming services on Thursday 16 March.

The second episode will be available on 27 March and will be available every second Monday from then on.
