Hot off the runway and ready to wear, Naarm (Melbourne) based label Joseph & James is about to go to the next level in the fashion game; announced as one of the seven First Nations designers to take part in the prestigious Indigenous Fashion Projects Pathways Program.

Designer and proud Gooreng Gooreng and South Sea Islander woman Juanita Page who said she was originally drawn to fashion as she admired the romanticism of evening wear on red carpets and wedding gowns that would appear at the end of couture fashion shows.

However, as she took up her studies as a fashion designer, she quickly realised a gap in the market and decided to take up the mantle of being part of the next generation of Australian menswear designers.

"My design aesthetic is influenced by my love for timeless sartorial elements and the creativity that flows when designing within that discipline, coupled with my desire to bring that refined essence into the streetwear environment," Page said.

"I aim to provide a unique signature on each piece, with the intent to apply more artistry into everyday functional menswear.

"Joseph & James is a place customers can get something distinct but with longevity in mind – both in design and quality."

Page will now take part in the Indigenous Fashion Projects Pathways Program alongside six other First Nations designers where she will have the opportunity to share her ideas, collaborate and participate in workshops.

"The IFP Pathways Program will not only support navigating this competitive industry as an emerging menswear label, but will also provide mentorship in how to build a customer base and grown the foundation of what we've built into a successful fashion business," she said.

Other Program designers include, KAMARA Australia, IIhra Swim, Mimi and Jinda, Gammin Threads, GALI Swimwear and Lazy Girl Lingerie.
