One of Western Australia's biggest regional health centres has been transformed to meet modern needs of the rural communities it serves across the state's biggest region.

The $13 million Bega Health Hub was redeveloped for Indigenous residents in the Goldfields, with the Kalgoorlie hub approximately 600km east of Perth.

Staff at Bega Garnbirringu Health Service were now embedded in the purpose-built, modern facility, which complements existing holistic services provided at three adjacent properties, after funding from the WA Government via a Lotterywest grant and $1.8m from the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation.

Bega funded more than a quarter of the $13 million project, which enables staff to deliver comprehensive health services from a culturally safe and easily accessible precinct.

With the Goldfields-Esperance region the largest by area in WA - at almost 1 million square kilometres - Bega expected a natural increase in demand for its new services, estimating 35 per cent growth in clients accessing social support services over the next three years.

About 12 per cent of the region's estimated 54,000 population are Indigenous, compared to 3.6 per cent of WA's total population.

This makes Bega Health Hub's success more paramount, with the organisation committed to treating Aboriginal people holistically, acknowledging social determinants of health and the history of Indigenous contact with western society.

Bega chairperson Fabian Tucker said the hub represented Bega's long-term vision for the region.

"This development is about investing in the future, creating a space that brings our services together, strengthens community connection and supports the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the Goldfields," he said.

ILSC group chief executive Joe Morrison said the Bega Health Hub was vital for local Indigenous communities as it was the biggest Aboriginal medical centre in the Goldfields-Esperance.

"The ILSC's funding towards this project extends beyond infrastructure; it's an investment in the people the hub will serve for generations to come," he said.

Bega's multiple primary health, allied health and support services are geared for 15,500 places, with several clients registered for multiple services, with a majority delivered in the Kalgoorlie CBD and via outreach, telehealth and mobile clinic services in surrounding Goldfields towns and communities.

The redeveloped Bega Health Hub is at 12-14 MacDonald Street, Kalgoorlie, with its official opening later this year.
