The Western Bulldogs will not shift on their priorities for Jamarra Ugle-Hagan on the eve of their season opener amid the young forward's absence from training early this week.

On Tuesday, reports broke Ugle-Hagan, who had been a more consistent presence around the club in recent weeks after being granted flexible training arrangements due to personal circumstances over summer, missed "scheduled" sessions at the Kennel on Monday and Tuesday.

According to reports, the Bulldogs were not alarmed by the 22-year-old's absence, with Nine chief football reporter Tom Morris telling Footy Classified he is expected to return to training on Thursday.

Earlier on AFL 360 Tuesday night, Bulldogs injured captain Marcus Bontempelli reiterated the club's position of caring for Ugle-Hagan the person before the footballer while he works through "delicate" personal challenges.

"That's been our MO (modus operandi, or mode of operation) for months now, really, to be honest," Bontempelli said.

In late January, club interim head of football Sam Power said much the same about the position on Ugle-Hagan's wellbeing.

The Dogs skipper added on Tuesday, despite narratives of Ugle-Hagan's path back to featuring early in 2025, the realities mean the club have placed "no timeline" on it as he works himself back into availability and conditioning.

It's expected the key forward has some lengthy work ahead of him before featuring at AFL level this season.

"There is still no timeline, and that's with Jamarra's best interest at heart," Bontempelli said.

"The support aspect is number one, the football aspect is still - we're not really even discussing a timeline…sometimes the answer is going to remain the same, until he and the club feels like things are in a place where we can even consider that."

Bomtempelli also said he had connected with Ugle-Hagan as support on a "personal level".

It comes after reports Ugle-Hagan was required to mend three relationships at the Dogs to re-instil trust - those being with Bontempelli, coach Luke Beveridge and teammate and former housemate Rory Lobb, before he could return to the AFL side.

There have also been reports the former no.1 draft pick was almost omitted from the Bulldog's losing elimination final with Hawthorn due to concerns around erratic behaviour.

Speaking to SEN Radio earlier this week, Lobb watered down any concerns around his relationship with Ugle-Hagan, saying the pairs are of "good terms" and that he had been trying to support the young footballer as best he can.

Bontempelli told AFL 360 he remains confident in Ugle-Hagan delivering on his potential as a footballer in the future.

"I'm always sort of glass half full. I think that's how we should be, and we'll do everything we can on our end to make sure he's given every opportunity that he needs, on and off the field," he said.

The Bulldogs play their season-opener against North Melbourne on Saturday night.
