The Western Bulldogs are prioritising Jamarra Ugle-Hagan's wellbeing over his football amid personal challenges interrupting the young forward's preparations for 2025, with no timeline being put on his return.
The club confirmed last week the 22-year-old has been granted "flexible" training arrangements over the summer, split between the club and away from the kennel.
Bulldogs interim head of football Sam Power said there were "layers" to the challenges the star is facing, some of which are not new.
The club have placed his short-term footy future back on the list of their priorities.
"We aren't putting a timeframe on Jamarra at the moment, in terms of when he might be playing or when he might be back in full-time within our training programs," Power told SEN on Thursday.
"Clearly all decisions at the present and short-term is around his wellbeing.
Clearly the objective is that we want to set him up in the right way to succeed on the field for medium-to-longer terms."
Power added the Bulldogs are "really hopeful" Ugle-Hagan will play an important role for them on-field in 2025 with he and the club in "constant dialogue".
Ugle-Hagan will not travel to a training camp in Queensland with the group on Friday.
"There is a flexibility for him...so we feel at the moment, with all the information, that's the best program for him, and that's what will continue," Power said.
Details of the circumstances surrounding Ugle-Hagan have not been made public.
Last year, he spent some time away from the club early in the season and at home in south-western Victoria.
Ugle-Hagan responded with a career-best season, booting 43 majors across 22 games to finish the Bulldogs' leading goalkicker.
