Carlton forward Jesse Motlop has been dealt a devastating knee injury less than two months out from the 2026 AFL season after rupturing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) at training on Monday.
Scans taken after the incident confirmed the extent of the injury, which regularly rules athletes out of action for 12 months.
The 22-year-old is due for surgery before starting rehab work, the Blues confirmed on Monday afternoon.
Motlop, the son of former North Melbourne and Port Adelaide player Daniel, enjoyed his most consistent playing time in 2025 featuring in each of Carlton's outings.
He booted 17 goals across the season.
"Jesse has put in plenty of hard work in the pre-season, so we are really feeling for him at this time," the Blues' general manager of footy Chris Davies said.
"While there is understandable disappointment right now, Jesse is the ultimate professional, who possesses great resilience, which will help as he moves through the recovery process.
"The Club and medical staff will continue to support Jesse during his rehabilitation."
Initially uncontracted beyond the end of last season, Motlop signed a two-year extension at the Blues in September.
Carlton kicks off the AFL season in a blockbuster with a blockbuster Opening Round clash against Sydney at the SCG on Thursday, March 5.
