Tasmanian Aboriginal culture will feature on Basketball Tasmania's state team singlets after the state's sports governing body unveiled its First Nations logo.
Designed by Guy 'Chalky' Grey and his daughter, Carly Grey, the logo represents the connection between Aboriginal communities and water in Lutruwita - the Palawa Kani name for Tasmania.
Nine basketballs feature on the logo, symbolising Tasmania's Aboriginal nations.
The logo was recently launched by Basketball Tasmania's under-16 state team singlet presentation ahead of this year's Under 16 National Championships.
Speaking to players and family members at the event, Mr Grey explained how the logo reflects the state's Aboriginal nations.
"If we talk about Tasmania, we had nine countries. So if we drove from Smithton to Hobart via the East Coast, you're actually driving through five countries," he said.
The under-16 teams will be the first Basketball Tasmania representatives to wear uniforms featuring the First Nations logo, with Mr Grey explaining to players the significant differences between Tasmanian Aboriginal culture and that of mainland Australia.

"When you talk about dreamtime stories, which is common with Aboriginal culture, in Lutruwita, which is our Palawa Kani name for Tasmania, we had coming into being stories and we had creation stories," he said.
"(It's the) same thing, but we don't call them dreamtime stories."
Mr Grey said the detail included in the logo's nine basketballs symbolises aspects of Aboriginal culture unique to Tasmania.
"We've embossed the nine countries and also there's some lines around the waterways," he said.
"And obviously we have lots of water in Tasmania… and also we were saltwater people as well. To understand and acknowledge water… so we've done that."
With the Under 16 National Championships being held in Bendigo from 7-14 July, Mr Grey said he hoped Tasmanian players participating in the tournament share some information about Tasmanian Aboriginal culture with their mainland rivals.
"The expectation will be somebody ask you 'what's Lutruwita?' Well that's the Aboriginal name for Tasmania. 'Why is it? Why is there nine basketballs?' We had nine countries," he said.
"'What are those symbols? Why is there no dots?' We didn't have dots. 'Why is there lines?' Because we're connected together."
