For this Torres Strait tourism operator, the experiences they offer go beyond a holiday — they are a vehicle for education, connection and reconciliation.
Waiben-based (Thursday Island) based company Lagaw Titui (Island Stars) offers what they call a 'special journey' exploring Ailan Kastom (Island Custom) and the world's oldest cultures.
They've partnered with Australian Geographic Travel to deliver multi-day cultural immersion tours, embedded with art, tradition, Torres Strait story and knowledge, traditional food, the landscape and ocean.
Island Stars promises trips with deep local knowledge and Indigenous storytelling, with the partnership, capped at groups of 10, set to build new levels of respect for cultural preservation and care for the Country.
"At Island Stars, we are committed to educating visitors on our culture to further reconciliation and strengthen connection," Island Stars co-founder Joey Laifoo said.
"This 4-day tour is a culturally safe way of sharing some of our practices, stories, art, ecology, and navigation.
"It was built under the guidance of local elders and cultural experts."
The partnership is also billed as a new piece strengthening tourism in the Torres Strait.
"We are thrilled to partner with Australian Geographic Travel to bring the depth and beauty of Torres Strait culture to the world," Mr Laifoo added.
"Through this venture, we aim to empower our people, share our stories, and build meaningful connections between travellers and our islands' living heritage."
