Eight major businesses have joined forces through the Beverage Reconciliation Industry Network Group (RING) to help First Nations businesses build connections with corporate procurement teams during Indigenous Business Month.
Held online on 29 October, the Beverage RING Meet the Supplier event brought together 44 buyers and procurement professionals from 18 organisations, providing six First Nations businesses with an opportunity to showcase their capabilities directly to a wider network of potential customers.
The initiative was delivered through collaboration between eight RING member organisations: Asahi Beverages, Australian Venue Co., Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Coles Group, Diageo, Endeavour Group, LION and Suntory Oceania.
"Creating connections through collective action", Six First Nations businesses participated in the event: Borger Safety & Workwear; Integrity Health & Safety; Kulbardi; Panku Safety Solutions; Supply Solutions Group; and The Supplies Mob.
Tim Cohen, Chief Operating Officer from Integrity Health & Safety, said: "As a First Nations business, opportunities like the Beverage RING Meet the Supplier event are incredibly valuable."
"Being able to present our capabilities directly to buyers from some of Australia's leading organisations helps open doors, build relationships and create awareness of what Indigenous businesses can offer. It's encouraging to see so many organisations coming together to support Indigenous businesses through meaningful engagement," he said.
The event took "a targeted, category-led approach", focusing on consumables and workplace supplies to bring together suppliers and procurement professionals with relevant purchasing responsibilities.
By collaborating across eight organisations, RING members were able to offer participating suppliers access to a broader network of potential buyers through a single event.
The session also welcomed representatives from organisations outside the beverage industry, extending opportunities for connections across other sectors.
Established in 2024, the Beverage RING works to bring together organisations from across the beverage industry to advance reconciliation through what it describes as "shared learning, partnerships and collective action".
The Meet the Supplier event reflects the network's focus on translating commitments into practical initiatives that increase the visibility of First Nations businesses and help build relationships with potential corporate customers.
Rebecca Loch, The Beverage RING Chair & Sustainability Leader, LION, noted that Reconciliation "requires more than good intentions".
"During Indigenous Business Month, it's particularly meaningful to see eight organisations coming together through RING to create opportunities for First Nations businesses," she said.
"By connecting suppliers directly with procurement teams across our industry, we're helping build relationships that can lead to lasting business opportunities. It's a great example of what we can achieve when we collaborate and turn our commitments into action."
Held during Indigenous Business Month, the initiative "recognises the important contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses make to the Australian economy and the value of creating more opportunities for meaningful business engagement", RING said.
The body noted that while the event provided "a platform for introductions and capability sharing", the focus now turns to "encouraging ongoing conversations between participating suppliers and interested procurement teams".
