The Ieramugadu (Roebourne) community, in collaboration with Big hART, extends an invitation to the public for a unique concert experience titled Songs for Freedom.
Comprised of original songs, the concert showcases the creative efforts of a diverse group of artists, many from the Pilbara town of Ieramugadu (Roebourne, WA).
The concert provides a platform for individuals across Sydney and Justice Leaders nationwide to convene, listen, and express their aspirations for the younger generation.
All are welcome to attend this free, family-oriented event that celebrates cultural exchange through music, song, and impactful visuals.
Under the musical guidance of Grammy award-winning artist Lucky Oceans and enriched by the poignant narration of Ngarluma man Patrick Churnside, Songs for Freedom presents sincere expressions of liberation and optimism directly from the Pilbara residents themselves.
The concert will feature esteemed guest artists Emma Donovan, Kutcha Edwards, Shellie Morris, and South Coast rapper Nooky, who will share the stage with an ensemble of musicians and members from the Ieramugadu community.
In the current context of a called-for referendum in response to the Statement from the Heart, this action directly related to another appeal within the same document - the urgent need to lower the incarceration rates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Proportionally, we are the most incarcerated people on the planet. We are not an innately criminal people," the Uluru Statement reads.
"Our children are aliened from their families at unprecedented rates.
"This cannot be because we have no love for them. And our youth languish in detention in obscene numbers. They should be our hope for the future."
Songs for Freedom has received recognition during its appearances at diverse locations, including Perth Festival, Darwin, and MONA FOMA in Hobart.
The upcoming event in Sydney will take place on 2 September at 6pm at Barangaroo.
The tour will then move on to Canberra's ANU Llewellyn Hall on 9 September, followed by Melbourne Recital Centre on 15 September.
The journey concludes with a significant anniversary concert in Roebourne, WA, on 23 September.
