The Mackay Cuttershave just announced the signing of two talented Māori players for the 2024 season.
With a history of Premiership success at the Mackay Magpies, Kauri Aupouri-Puketapu (Te Aitawa) and Augustus Rangihuna (Ngati Porou), have agreed to join the team.
These signings come after the half and fullback, Aupouri-Puketapu and outside back, Rangihuna delivered outstanding performances in the local Rugby League Mackay and District (RLMD) competition, catching the attention of the Cutters.
"It's a big deal for me coming off the back of a really good season with the Mackay Magpies," said Aupouri-Puketapu.
"Living and playing footy in Mackay for the year I see what rugby league means to the people of Mackay, and I just feel like to the town deserves more from the top grade.
"I also have some really good mates in the team and I guess for most part of any footy player that's why we started."

Aupouri-Puketapu, with his wealth of experience, is set to strengthen the halves, while Rangihuna, a familiar face at the club, will bolster the outside backs.
Notably, Rangihuna also showcased his skills in the recent All Blacks Rugby League Carnival, where he scored a try against the fierce competition.
Rangihuna spoke of his excitement of rejoining the club and is eager to take his rugby career as far as he can, drawing inspiration from his friends and family.
"I would love to play profressionally and represent my home country," he said.
His drive and work ethic continues to inspire those around him where he and Aupouri-Puketapu also offered advice to young people out there who want to follow a similar path.
"Young mob out there, surround yourself around supportive people, work hard, strive high and give back," Rangihuna said.
"For everyone that wants to make it in my position, just never stop being a student of the game - even at this point I'm still trying to learn as much as I can," Aupouri-Puketapu added.
"Always ask questions on how to better yourself."
These signings are expected to enhance the Cutters' roster for the upcoming season, and fans are eager to see their contributions on the field.
