YNG Martyr has released his highly anticipated sophomore album, 'CHALANT', alongside the official video for its single 'BODYCOUNT'.

The Wiradjuri rapper's latest project marks a shift away from the detached persona often tied to hip-hop and moves further into his own world.

'CHALANT' builds on the foundation of 2022's 'Lovesick', expanding his sound through confidence, clarity and creative freedom.

The album draws on gaming, internet culture and the references which shaped him, while leaning into underground sounds such as rage and jerk.

YNG Martyr said the album reflects the things that made him.

"CHALANT is about owning the things I grew up on and not filtering myself to fit into what rap is 'supposed' to be," he said.

"It pulls from gaming, internet culture, and everything that shaped me, but pushes it into something that still hits hard in a modern context."

The release is led by 'BODYCOUNT (FEAT. 1900RUGRAT)', which stands as one of the album's loudest and most direct tracks.

The song is built around heavy synths and high energy, with 1900Rugrat brought in to add a contrasting style.

YNG Martyr said the collaboration gave the track its edge.

"'BODYCOUNT' is one of the most high-energy moments on the album," YNG Martyr said.

"Loud, synth-heavy, and built to hit hard in the whip which is where we listened to it the most.

"Getting 1900 Rugrat on it was crazy too, because he contrasts me in almost every way; delivery, accent and energy, but we both sit in that same space of flex and f****** around with our bars, which makes the record feel more unique to me."

The video for 'BODYCOUNT (FEAT. 1900RUGRAT)' is built around nostalgia and a surreal take on 'Halo', with YNG Martyr describing it as a full extension of the album's identity.

"Halo felt like the perfect backdrop because it's so iconic, and flipping it into this performance-driven, absurd version of itself was insane," he said.

Across the record, YNG Martyr draws on long-running influences and reshapes them into a project that is playful, loud and personal.

Tracks reference fan favourites such as 'GEEKD' and 'REAL GEEK', while also flipping songs including Kelis' 'MILKSHAKES' and Kelly Clarkson's 'SINCE U BEEN GONE'.

The album was made with long time collaborator and producer-engineer REYKO!, alongside a wider group of international contributors including producers Synthetic, Joey Barrios, Trenton Kyle and Shipy, while Grammy Award-winning mix engineer Teezio handled the final mix.

The release follows a run of singles which pointed to a more open and direct era for the rapper.

That run drew support across CADA, triple j and iHeartRadio's TikTok Trending, along with coverage from 'Rolling Stone AU/NZ' and 'Ones To Watch'.

YNG Martyr said the album's message sits in self-belief rather than performance.

"When people hear CHALANT, I want them to learn something about themselves," he said.

"You don't need to be super cool to do super cool things.

"You don't need to try to be anything that you're not."

'CHALANT' is now available on all major streaming platforms.
