Cronulla could be without prized recruit Caitlan Johnston-Green in 2025, following the NSW Sky Blues and Indigenous All Stars prop's pregnancy announcement.

Johnston-Green, who played her final game for Newcastle in August confirmed the news via Instagram on Wednesday.

The Lake Macquarie product lifted two premiership trophies with her local club.

The 23-year-old and her partner are expecting the child in May, around the same period NRLW pre-season preparations ramp up.

How much the life news disrupts her season remains unclear, though it could mean the Sharks are without their incoming star forward to start the campaign.

Johnston-Green signed a three-year deal (for 2025 onward) with Cronulla in May, going on to play some of the 2024 season with Newcastle before a medial collateral ligament tear in her right knee suffered at training ruled her out of a tilt at a third-straight premiership with her hometown club.

The Knights were knocked off by eventual premiers the Roosters in the first week of finals.

Via a statement, the Sharks said they'll offer Johnston-Green every bit of support through the pregnancy.

"As a club, we're thrilled for Caitlan and will support her in every way she needs throughout this journey," the Sharks told AAP.

"Our medical team will work with Caitlan and ensure she receives the best care and guidance ahead of a return to the field when the time is right for her."

Johnston has made four State of Origin appearances, including all three 2024 games, alongside appearances for the Indigenous All Stars and Jillaroos.
