This November, a group of women from diverse cultural backgrounds will engage in dance, transforming a park in Balga into an outdoor performance space for three nights.
Mudh (meaning Home in the language of Kala Lagaw Ya - Mabuyaagi dialect of the Western cluster of the Torres Strait Islands) is a contemporary dance work by Torres Strait Islander choreographer Sonya Stephen, bringing women together to explore nurture, belonging and connection through movement.
Set among the Balga trees at Bina Parkland, the free, family-friendly performance will unfold across the landscape, with performers moving within, across and in front of the park's beginner BMX track.
The work grew from STRUT Dance's Locale initiative, which supported Stephen to develop an initial series of workshops and a showing in 2025.
Now, following a further period of development, Mudh brings that creative journey into the public realm, creating space for women whose voices and experiences are often underrepresented in the arts.

By bringing First Nations, migrant and wider community members together through a shared creative process, Mudh explores how a sense of home can be built through connection.
Audiences are invited to arrive from 5pm to enjoy pre-show activities, and a free sausage sizzle provided by the City of Stirling, before the performance begins at 6.30pm.
With a relaxed, all-ages atmosphere, Mudh offers an opportunity to experience contemporary dance in an unexpected setting and share an evening with family, friends and the local community.
"To me, Mudh is more than a performance. It is an invitation to pause, feel, and share a moment with us. It is something you can experience with your heart as much as with your eyes," said Ms Stephen.
A preview is planned for Thursday the 12th of November. Public access for this session is to be confirmed.
Mudh is presented by STRUT Dance as part of the Locale project, supported by the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the Australian Government through Creative Australia, Minderoo Foundation and the City of Stirling.
