National Indigenous Australians Agency CEO Julie-Ann Guivarra will deliver the 2026 Russell Taylor Oration in Canberra next month, with the annual address set to focus on leadership, public service and the future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
A proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman, Ms Guivarra has held senior positions across the Australian Public Service and diplomatic service.
Her career has included serving as Australia's Ambassador to Spain, Andorra and Equatorial Guinea, Australia's Ambassador for Gender Equality before her current role leading the NIAA.
The annual Russell Taylor Oration honours the legacy of former Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) chief executive officer Russell Taylor and recognises the achievements and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders in public service.
AIATSIS chief executive officer Leonard Hill said Ms Guivarra's career and leadership experience made her an outstanding speaker for this year's Oration.
"The Russell Taylor Oration honours leaders whose contributions have shaped communities, institutions and the nation," Mr Hill said.
"Julie-Ann Guivarra has built an exceptional career across diplomacy, public policy and Indigenous affairs. Her experience and perspective make her an important voice in contemporary conversations about leadership, public service and the future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples."
The Oration will provide an opportunity for audiences to hear Ms Guivarra's perspectives on leadership and public service, while also contributing to a broader national discussion about the future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Ms Guivarra will deliver the Oration on Thursday, 8 October, at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) Maraga building in Canberra. The event will also be livestreamed nationally, with a question-and-answer session to follow.
