Following his debut album, Ngiyampaa musician and singer-songwriter Pirritu (Brett Lee) has returned with a new album and a tour.
His second album, entitled Fire When The Sun Goes Down or Pirritu Part 2, utilises classic folk storytelling elements to narrate a man's personal journey of discovering Country and culture.
Pirritu means Brett in the Ngiyampaa language. His new album is considered a true folk ensemble with strong visual narratives and his songlines informed by work he does outside of music.
Lee was adoped by non-Aboriginal parents as a baby and raised to be proud of his heritage. At 14 years old, he went on a journey to connect back with family, culture and language.
And in his adulthood, it is evident in the work Lee does outside of music. Lee volunteers with the Ngiuyampaa Language Project to test materials being created to update the Ngiyampaa Grammar.
His second album builds on the heartiness from his first one, using a musical lens to interpret the understanding of one's culture.
Both Lee and his music come into themselves more and more with this album. And as a result, he begins a tour around the eastern states of Australia starting this April.
