A Dockers fan was removed from the stands and an investigation has been launched following complaints made by Eagles star Liam Ryan during last night's Derby match at Optus stadium, according to the West Australian.

During the final quarter of the match a fan sitting behind the goals was ejected after Ryan twice pointed them out, and after assistance provided by other supporters allowed security to locate the person.

It's been reported the alleged comments made are not believed to have been racial.

Following a string of fan-related incidents in the opening half of the 2023, the AFL announced lifetime bans for any person found guilty of vilification.

Optus Stadium have reportedly confirmed they are interviewing in relation to the incident, and that both clubs are aware of the matter.

West Coast built on a strong opening term to hold a two goal lead into the main break, before Fremantle leapfrogged Carlton into third spot on the AFL ladder off the back of a 10-2 goal second half ending in a 17.8 (110) - 11.9 (75) win.

Ryan had kicked two majors before half time.

Both sides will await the match review officers assessment after the rivalry boiled over into separated melees following a Dockers goal with two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
