Fremantle captain Alex Pearce is free to play this weekend after his three-match ban for rough conduct was overturned by the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.

The Palawa key defender was handed the sanction for his collision which left Darcy Byrne-Jones concussed in Walyalup (Fremantle) and Yartapuulti's (Port Adelaide) clash at the weekend.

Byrne-Jones was running with the flight of the ball when wore heavy contact from Pearce coming from the opposite direction.

The Fremantle skipper didn't elect to bump and entered with eyes for the ball, but had left the ground just before impact. The matter was graded careless conduct, severe impact and high contact by the Match Review Officer.

At the Tribunal on Tuesday, the three-week sanction offered was overturned after deliberation between the panel, following an hour-long hearing.

"It is not and never has been the position of the Tribunal, or as far as we can ascertain the MRO, that an outcome of concussion inevitably results in a finding of at least careless conduct," Tribunal chair Jeff Gleeson said on the night, according to AAP.

"Every incident must be, and is, examined and determined on its own facts."

Pearce reportedly stated "it would not sit well with me if I was to pull out of that contest and not impact it" and he "wouldn't be overly comfortable" with how it could present to teammates and fans.

Byrne Jones reportedly said he was aware a collision was coming, and he braced for impact, adding "it felt like it was just a collision in the marking contest".

With the Tribunal's decision, Gleeson said: "Pearce's attempt to mark was entirely realistic".

"If not for Byrne-Jones entering the contest from the opposite direction, he would likely have taken the mark, he said.

"We do not find that this was rough conduct."

Freo coach Justin Longmuir had previously said he didn't think the matter constituted a free kick.

Pearce is free to play in the Dockers' Saturday afternoon meeting with Gold Coast.

"We are pleased that Alex's suspension was overturned tonight by the AFL Tribunal," Fremantle executive general manager of footy Joe Brierty said on Tuesday night, AAP reports.

"We wish Darcy Byrne-Jones well in his recovery.

"Alex will now continue with his preparation for our Gold Coast fixture on Saturday.

"The Club would also like to acknowledge the services of Tim Hammond SC and thank him for his successful efforts at tonight's hearing."
