During NAIDOC Week this July Hornsby Shire Council will hold a range of complimentary and interactive activities at Hornsby Library.

The festivities kick off with a complimentary screening of The Last Daughter and a special 'meet the author' session with Brenda Matthews. Following the screening, Ms Mathews will delve into her childhood experiences and her journey towards understanding and reconciliation in an engaging presentation.

Through her compelling narrative, Ms Mathews inspires participants to forge deeper connections and foster mutual understanding.

Moreover, a diverse array of events will be held during the school holidays, catering to children of all age groups. These include NAIDOC Storytime for children aged 0-7 and Rock Painting Workshops led by Wiradjuri artist, Peta-Joy, for children aged 5-12.

Philip Ruddock, Mayor of Hornsby Shire Council, is urging residents to participate in one of the complementary events and gain knowledge about Aboriginal culture and Country.

"NAIDOC Week provides a wonderful opportunity for residents to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples," he said.

"We're proud to present these free events for our community during NAIDOC Week 2024. Come along and join us at Hornsby Library to learn and pay respect, but also have a lot of fun."

Screening for the Last Daughter and meet Ms Matthews will be on Friday 5 July at 2pm-5pm, then screenings will run from Sunday 7 July to Sunday 14 July. 10am-5pm daily will be the NAIDOC puzzle trail.

On Monday 8 July at two time slots will be the Indigenous Art Workshops with Peta-Joy Williams – Rock Painting on at 10:30 am and 12pm.

On Thursday 11 July, 10am-11am is the NAIDOC storytime and on Friday 12 July, 10am-12pm will be the NAIDOC drop in craft.
