What was expected to be a two-week trial for Tarryn Thomas with WAFL club Swan Districts in an effort to revive his career has been cut short, with the club announcing Thursday they would not recruit the former AFL player - after two days.

Earlier this month, Thomas was cleared by the AFL to play state-league football in 2025 with a non-AFL affiliated club.

It comes after serving a lengthy ban and being shown the door at North Melbourne following a string of allegations concerning his behaviour towards women, including incidents of harassment, intimidation and bullying.

Earlier this week, stand-alone VFL outfit Northern Bullants abandoned their interest in the disgraced 24-year-old following a club meeting.

Thomas arrived on the training track with Swans this week.

His arrival in Perth and the revelation he would train with Swan Districts sparked a backlash, with many fans asking how the club's very successful women's team would feel about the move, and how recruiting Thomas would be in keeping with the WAFL's public stance on gendered violence.

In an earlier statement, the club said no decision had been made regarding Thomas, before announcing the decision Thursday.

"Let's be patently clear, our club does not condone what Tarryn's done. We see intimidation or threatening messages as domestic violence and should never be seen as acceptable behaviour," Swans chief executive Jeff Dennis said earlier this week.

"Clearly Tarryn has had some challenges and paid a price. We are by no means dismissing this, but sometimes when people are at such a low point over a period of time they need a hand up to help reset and reconnect.

"For some players football is all they have in life. While it's absolutely fair and reasonable to use this as a punishment, at some stage they should be given the chance to make amends and reset their life, especially while they've got an opportunity to do it."

The Swans annual general meeting is set to be held Thursday night.
