The Adelaide Strikers have signed express seamer Brendan Doggett to a two-year deal.

Doggett becomes the second Indigenous cricketer to sign with the Strikers ahead of BBL|13 after D'Arcy Short put pen to paper with the Strikers earlier this month.

After six seasons and 41 matches with the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder, the 29-year-old from Rockhampton joins the Strikers having taken BBL 40 wickets (best bowling 5-35) at an average of 26.87.

Familiar with the South Australian cricket fraternity after signing with the Redbacks ahead of the 2021/22 season, Doggett will join fellow Redbacks team mates and fast bowlers Wes Agar and Henry Thornton at the Strikers.

The proud Worimi man said signing with Adelaide was a natural fit.

"South Australia is home now so to be able to stay here for 12 months of the year with my young family is great," Doggett said.

"It's exciting to join a group with a lot of players and staff that I am familiar with, as well as getting to play more at a packed Adelaide Oval."

In his former years, Doggett, an Australian Indigenous XI representative was touted for possible Test selection after his inclusion in the Australian squad for the 2018 series against Pakistan, however did not play.

He has since been plagued by injuries to his quad, lower back and most recently hip, which saw him miss the beginning of the Sheffield Shield and Marsh One-Day Cup last season.

However he finished the 2022/23 season injury-free, with Adelaide Strikers head coach Jason Gillespie saying the talented seamer is a strong addition to the Strikers' squad.

"We've seen Brendan up close in our domestic program and he is a real asset to any team he is in," Gillespie said.

"Brendan is an incredibly hard worker and we are excited to add his pace and experience to our squad."

Doggett becomes the third Indigenous cricketer to sign with a new club ahead of BBL|13, after Short and Gulidjan quick Scott Boland departed the Hobart Hurricanes, with Boland returning to his hometown Melbourne Stars.

The Strikers commence their BBL|13 campaign against the Brisbane Heat at Adelaide Oval on December 9.
