Ash Gardner is set to continue leading the Sydney Sixers as skipper this summer, with the club backing her as captain amid recent allegations concerning the star allrounder's personal life.

On confirming NSW Women's Head Coach Peter Clarke would step up from an assistant role into the job in charge of the Sixers' WBBL side for the coming season, the full faith was put behind the Muruwari champion to continue in her on-field leadership role.

Last week, Gardner was thrown into the spotlight when accused of an alleged cheating scandal involving herself and Australian side teammate Georgia Voll.

Speaking on Thursday, Sixers general manager Rachael Haynes, a former teammate of Gardner, addressed the allegations.

Hayes chose not to go on about personal matters, but confirmed she and Gardner had exchanged messages and said "she knows that we're here to support her".

On the Sixers' leadership, Hayes said: "She's a well-respected player within our program, an important player for us, so I think the most important thing is knowing that we're there for her, we care about her and look forward to continuing with the club ongoing," according to Fox Sports Australia.

There are no plans for a change in the captaincy ranks ahead of WBBL12.

"Each year we make a recommendation to our board around our leaders. She (Gardner) certainly did a fantastic job last year, and we'll be making that recommendation to our board that she continues," Hayes said.

Gardner took on the role as Sixers captain ahead of last summer, replacing inaugural and long-time skipper Ellyse Perry.

In January she was confirmed as permanent vice-captain of the national team.

Gardner is a two-time WBBL title-winner with the club, and a competition player of the tournament winner across a decade with the side.
