Young speedster Phoenix-Raine Hippi is among a list of debutants named in Queensland's Women's State of Origin squad ahead of the Maroons' attempt to regain the shield, starting in Newcastle next week.

Hippi, 19, who followed her first taste of representative football in the Prime Minister's XIII last year with a Indigenous All Stars debut in February, is joined by Kiwi Fern Otesa Pule and Cook Islands international Chantay Kiria-Ratu, set to slot into the halves, as first-time selections in the 17.

The winger has made an impressive start to her career, scoring nine tries in seven appearances in her first NRLW season with the Titans ahead of early representative honours.

As expected, reigning Dally M winner Tamika Upton will wear the No.1 jersey on Wednesday night, with fellow Indigenous All Stars Keilee Joseph returning for her fourth series at lock.

NSW will field First Nations stars Jaime Chapman and Olivia Kernick, on the wing and lock respectively, as they prepare their series defence after bouncing back to take the shield over the border last year.

It's Chapman's fourth straight campaign with the Sky Blues, while Kernick returns after a Nellie Doherty Medal-winning series in 2025, as its best performer.

Indigenous All-Stars co-captain Quincy Dodd has also been selected in the extended squad of 20.

Queensland went 1-nil up at Newcastle last year before NSW stormed back with four-try wins in both Sydney and Brisbane to lift the shield for the first time since 2022.

Last year's NRLW grand finalists will contribute heavily to game one.

The Maroons' squad features seven names from premiers Brisbane, including Upton, while the Roosters have eight selections in the Sky Blues squad.

Māori All Star Rima Butler, in the 19 jumper, is one of NSW's two selections who've not yet played in the Origin arena.

The Sunshine state hosts two of this year's fixtures, with game two set to open the NRL's Magic Round in Brisbane on May 14 before moving to the Gold Coast for game three later in the month.
