A new Aboriginal-led digital platform combining language revitalisation and artificial intelligence was officially launched Thursday, highlighting a shift toward Indigenous control of knowledge systems in emerging technologies.
The Ngalia Ninti Language Platform, developed by Kado Muir through DiljiLabs, integrates Ngalia language, cultural knowledge and AI within a "culturally governed framework".
The platform was officially launched by WA Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Don Punch.
Ngalia Ninti has been designed to support the preservation and transmission of language while also addressing broader questions around Indigenous data sovereignty and the governance of knowledge in digital environments.
"Language is how we understand Country, law and relationships," Mr Muir said.
"This platform is about ensuring those knowledge systems continue to guide how technology is developed and used."
The platform includes structured language learning modules alongside an interactive AI system informed by Ngalia cultural knowledge and worldview.
It reflects growing national and international concern about how Indigenous knowledge is accessed, used and controlled within rapidly evolving digital and AI systems.
Ngalia Ninti represents an alternative model—one where cultural authority and governance are embedded in the design of the technology itself.
"This is not just about language," Mr Muir said.
"It is about who holds authority over knowledge, and how that authority is respected in new technological environments."

Mr Muir believes the initiative has potential applications across education, government and industry, particularly in areas where cultural capability and engagement with Traditional Owners are critical.
He said the launch highlights the role of Aboriginal leadership in shaping the future of digital systems and ensuring that Indigenous knowledge is protected and strengthened for future generations.
