Passions, professions and desires to make a difference are as varied as the opportunities, and often the barriers, in front of the pursuit of something big.

Former Olympic gold medallist-turned-senator Nova Peris and two Indigenous Churchill fellowship beneficiaries will spearhead talks to encourage Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians alike to delve deeper into their respective discipline.

The fellowship, named for former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, provides an avenue for 'everyday' people around the world to research a topic of their choosing overseas.

The opportunity is not restricted to those with any previous level of higher education.

Australian body, The Winston Churchill Trust, are preparing to host a dedicated First Nations session among 11 information discussions.

Ms Peris will host the talks and a Q&A, with unique experiences from former fellows adding their part.

Nyigina and Boigu Island man and Northern Territory police senior constable Alphonsus Shields was awarded his Australia and New Zealand School of Government Churchill fellowship for promoting Indigenous employment into management positions within Government.

Yadhaigana-Wuthathi and Moa and Badu Islands woman Donisha Duff investigated chronic kidney disease programs for First Nations people with her fellowship in 2015.

The pair will share their stories and encourage others to give themselves every chance at going down their own paths.

"We are pleased to have Nova Peris as guest host for our First Nations information session. The Trust has a strong connection and commitment to Indigenous affairs and a strong network of Indigenous Churchill Fellows," WCT chief executive Adam Davey said.

"We hope to increase awareness of and participation among Indigenous people in Churchill Fellowships in any topic or field."

Applications for the Churchill Fellowship open March 1 with registrations for information sessions available online.
