A League club Brisbane Roar will go head-to-head with the Solomon Islands' national men's side next month as part of a trip to the Pacific neighbour.

The Roar have been invited to the Solomon Islands for the inaugural PacificAus Sports Challenge, and will also host activities with White River Community High School, engage with the national men's top division, the S-League, and local Youth Leagues at the national academy.

The Solomon Islands, currently 148th in FIFA men's rankings, have played five matches against Australian sides since 2022, also hosting three touring teams since 2024.

In February, the Solomon Islands national women's side took part in the PacificAus Sports Four Nations against Vanuatu, and Australia and Thailand's under20 sides.

Hosting the MSG Prime Minister's Cup in 2024, previously known as the Melanesia Cup, Solomon Islands finished third behind Papua New Guinea and Fiji.

PacificSports Aus is an Australian Government initiative supporting high level competition and development in neighbouring countries across a range of sports.

"As a football club, we are honoured to be invited to the PacficAus Sports Challenge," Roar chief operations officer Zac Anderson said.

"Solomon Islands is country who live and breathe the world game and to be able to engage with both them and the Australian High Commission in Honiara is a privilege.

"We look forward to what will be an incredible trip for our playing squad who will no doubt play in front of a passionate set of fans at the National Stadium which will continue to aid our preparations ahead of the new season.

"Lastly, we thank the Australian Government, SIFF and Football Australia for their support in making this trip possible."

The A League club will play the Solomon Islands at the National Stadium in Honiara on Saturday October 4.

Joshua Smith, head coach of the national team, said the partnership between the countries' governing body (SIFF) and Road "represents an important step forward for our game".

"It provides our national team players with the challenge of competing against professional opposition while also strengthening ties that will create valuable pathways and opportunities for future generations of Solomon Islands footballers," Smith said.

Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands Rod Hilton labelled the trip a "historic visit" while Football Australia interim chief executive Heather Garriock called it "a key feature of the partnership between both countries" in a "crucial" relationship.

"Football continues to be the conduit between Australia to the greater region, and through our partnership with the Australian Government we will continue to support the development of Pacific football through footballing initiatives and capacity-building projects such as these," Garriock said.

Fans can stream the match on Brisbane Roar's YouTube channel.
