Noongar, Wongi and Pitjantjatjara hip hop artist JJ Vacant is back with his new single 'Line Up', which debuted on triple j on Monday.

The Boorloo-based MC has released the track after building national support through his debut single 'No Warning' featuring INKABEE, along with performances at VIVID Sydney at the Sydney Opera House, Fremantle Arts Centre and support slots for Downsyde.

'Line Up' is a hard-hitting hip hop track driven by a bass-heavy beat and JJ's rapid delivery, with production from TEHIIRI.

JJ said the song showed the sound and energy he wanted to put forward.

"The track is called 'Line Up' - TEHIIRI helped a lot throughout the making of it, with production, some of the writing, everything," he said.

"It's that raw, unapologetic JJ type of stuff."

The single continues JJ's move as one of the emerging Indigenous voices in Australian hip hop, with the track focused on confidence, competition and making his presence known.

JJ said the triple j debut marked another step in his career after earlier support for his first release.

"It feels special, it feels different.

"It's really the start of something that's going to keep growing and keep moving forward."

The release comes ahead of JJ's solo BIGSOUND 2026 showcase in Magandjin (Brisbane), where Indigenous artists were among the first 100 acts named for the event's 25th anniversary.

JJ performed at BIGSOUND last year as part of a wider First Nations presence, but his 2026 appearance will mark a solo step onto the national industry stage.

He said he was ready to bring new music to the showcase.

"I'm solo, I've got to come through, I've got to perform and put it out.

"I've got new tracks that I'm ready to show to everyone."

JJ also credited FN Focus with helping him reach stages and opportunities earlier than he expected.

He said the team had supported artists with recording, connections and performances, while creating a sense of family around the roster.

"They put us on stages that I never really thought I could get to in the short amount of time that I made it to," Mr Vacant said.

"If you put in the work and you have an amazing team behind you, then anything is possible.

"We're all like a family."

'Line Up' by JJ Vacant is available on spotify now.
