Fans of his work expected him to bring out another science book. What Corey Tutt brought out instead was an encyclopedia of some of the deadliest mob from all over the country.

The Kamilaroi man is best known as the founder of DeadlyScience, a not-for-profit that provides science books and equipment to remote schools in Australia.

Already an author with his debut book The First Scientists, now Tutt is back with This Book Thinks Ya Deadly, profiling 80 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across different fields of work.

Tutt, who was recently named as an associate professor with Western Sydney University, said this book is a gift to Indigenous kids all around Australia.

"This book is a gift to our kids because I wanted to let them know that there are so many amazing fellas they could look up to," he said.

"And they never have to be alone with this book.

"This book is called This Books Thinks Ya Deadly because we have so many incredible, young, deadly people."

The illustrations alongside Tutt's words are by Balanggarra and Yolngu artist, animator and writer Molly Hunt.

The inspiration for the book came during COVID and an injury. Both of these events combined spurred Tutt to take time away and reflect on his journey since beginning Deadly Science and the people he had met.

"I started thinking about Cathy Freeman and people like that and wondering what is it that makes them deadly," he said.

"Everyone knows Cathy Freeman's deadly, but what is it about them that I like that I think is inspiring.

"What is it about Cathy, and Goodesy (Adam Goodes) and Tony (Tony Armstrong) and Bianca Hunt that inspires me as a person?"

Reflecting on his writing journey, Tutt said it was very different than writing First Scientists.

However, after finishing the book it was the passing of Uncle Jack Charles which was a really emotional point for Tutt.

"We'd only really just gotten into contact with each other, Jack is a massive supporter of DeadlyScience," Tutt said.

"He was always on LinkedIn, liking my stuff and supporting me and I really admired him as a person.

"His strength to still give people a reason to smile and laugh, you know with all he had been through in his life.

"You read that part of the book and you see the strength in the man."

While the book is finished, Tutt admits there could be a second one given how many more other people who could include.

"I put so much of my heart into the writing process, it was a sense of pride," he said.

"But also I felt like the job wasn't done because there are so many more deadly people that I can write about in the next rendition of this book."

While Tutt hasn't committed to book two just yet, he said to expect more writing from him in the future.

This Book Thinks Ya Deadly is out online and in bookstores now.
