Ash Gardner's impact across all formats of international cricket has been recognised after the Muruwari all-rounder was awarded the Peden-Archdale medal for Player of the Ashes series.

Across the series' seven matches Gardner scored 208 runs and took 23 wickets, a record for most wickets in a multi-format series.

Her best came in the one-off test which opened the series, her second innings figures of 8-66 and match figures of 12-165 becoming the best by an Australian woman at international test level.

Gardner took two wickets or more in all but two matches throughout the series, ending with an average of 16.82 with the ball across all three formats.

She finished three wickets ahead of her opposition number, England left arm orthodox Sophie Ecclestone, who took 20 wickets in the series.

Top scoring with 41 in the series final in Taunton and ending the series with a modest batting average of 26, the Muruwari allrounder scored 30 or more five times throughout the series, often contributing handy middle order runs in support of a set Australian batter.

Her form with the bat saw her finish eighth in runs scored throughout the series, which was led by England allrounder Nat Sciver-Brunt who scored 404 series runs.

The women's Ashes wrapped up on Tuesday with England winning the final one-day International to level the series at eight points all.

However having previously held the trophy, Australia retained the Ashes in a bittersweet result having lost four of seven matches in the multi-format series.

Gardner and her Australian teammates will have little time to ponder 'what could have been' after the drawn series, with a three match ODI series against Ireland beginning on Sunday.
