Gamilaroi star Will 'Davo' Hickey has signed with the South Bay Lakers for the remainder of the NBA G League season, adding another step to his rise after a breakout year in the NBL.
South Bay confirmed Hickey's signing this week, with the guard set to wear No. 7 as the Lakers continue their push towards the playoffs alongside Bronny James.
The club sits near the top of the Western Conference and has already secured a post-season berth.
Hickey's signing follows a standout 2024-25 season with the Illawarra Hawks, where he emerged as one of the club's key figures during its championship run.
The 27-year-old delivered one of the defining performances of the finals series in the title-clinching Game 5, finishing with 21 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists against Melbourne United.
Hickey also continued to build his profile at international level through the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, where he averaged 10.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists for Australia.
The tournament highlighted his ability to impact games across the board, not only as a scorer but also as a playmaker and rebounder.
Earlier in the year, Hickey also featured in the 2025 NBA Summer League with the Chicago Bulls, adding to his growing experience in the United States system before this latest opportunity with South Bay.
He is expected to link up with a South Bay squad which has become an important pathway into the NBA, with Bronny James among those to feature for the club this season when not on call-up with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Hickey's progress has also been recognised away from the court through his connection to the Koorie Basketball Academy.
"We are very proud of our ambassador Davo Hickey, signed with Lakers NBA G League team," Uncle Ricky Baldwin said.
