The door might not be entirely closed on axed footballer Tarryn Thomas' AFL career with clubs reportedly keeping an eye on his situation.
According to News Corp, 'clubs are already monitoring his status' with VFL setups set to asses his progress after the 23-year-old was forced out of North Melbourne following repeated controversies involving women.
After AFL investigation amid fresh accusations of behavioural issues made against him, Thomas was banned from football at any level until July 22.
His possible return to competitive play is subject to completing an AFL-pre-approved behavioural change program at his own expense.
In February it was announced the league found Thomas guilty of several breaches of player conduct.
It was determined Thomas had committed 'multiple acts of misconduct including threatening a woman via direct messages multiple times'.
The findings prompted the ban and North's decision to cut ties after their own lengthy efforts to successfully positively redirect his career.
North also stated their AFLW setup was kept updated on the allegations made against Thomas and his involvement in the in-house programmes set up for him towards the end of his time at Arden St.
Should Thomas satisfy the requirements ahead of him, he could make a return to VFL football for the end portion of the season.
It's understood the AFL are yet to make a call on whether Thomas' could be considered a delisted free agent or would need to re-enter the league through the draft process if another chance at the top level was to be considered.
VFL setups Williamson and Port Melbourne - who took an ultimately unsuccessful chance on former Demon Harley Bennell last year, could serve as potential homes for the controversial footballer.
Both operate as stand-alone clubs in the second-tier competition.
No club has publicly stated interest in Thomas.
