The town of Carnarvon was filled with enthusiasm as it hosted the 2024 NAIDOC Week Youth Basketball Tournament recently.
The event, organised by The ABC Foundation, featured former Perth Wildcats Captain Brad Robbins and Vice-Captain Greg Hire as hosts.
Robbins and Hire were crucial in the planning and execution of this year's Youth Basketball Tournament. Organisers said the two basketball legends' involvement and knowledge significantly contributed to creating a memorable day for everyone present, including the supporters on the sidelines.
The Basketball Tournament held this year underscored the ability of sports and culture to unite communities.
The setting was designed to reduce antisocial behaviour and assist disengaged youth by encouraging healthy lifestyles that will motivate the upcoming generation of leaders in the Carnarvon Community.
Chair of Gascoyne Community Services (On Country Partner), Sahneemah Moncrieff, expressed her enthusiasm for future events.
"Seeing the kids within the community so engaged and having fun is what it's all about," she said.
"We're already looking forward to the next tournament and continuing to inspire and empower young people through sports."

Head of Community Projects and Partnerships, Karen Stead said it was "incredible" to see the impact sports can have on young lives.
"This event is all about empowering kids and encouraging healthy choices within these communities and beyond," she said.
The ABC Foundation has emphasised that the achievements of this year's event were facilitated by the generous support of Healthway, which sought to unite the community through sports, cultural activities, and healthy lifestyles.
The assistance provided by Gascoyne Community Services Aboriginal Corporation, one of ABC Foundation's On-Country Partners, was also instrumental in facilitating the success of the event. Their participation underscored the significance of community cooperation in fostering enriching experiences for youth.
Following the remarkable success of this year's Basketball Tournament, the children are already looking forward to the next event, which is set to take place on September 21st-22nd, 2024, at the Carnarvon Festival Grounds.
