Guugu Yimithirr man and prolific television and film creator Dean Gibson has joined the board at Brisbane, the club he has supported since his childhood.

Gibson's work has graced Australia's screens with children's television, comedy, drama and moving documentary for years, notably the 2021 90-minute SBS/NITV documentary Incarceration nation.

Gibson's CV includes a Logie Award for 2021-22 for most outstanding factual or documentary program and was a finalist for a Walkley Award and finalist for ATOM's best feature documentary in 2022 for the program.

A Lions tragic, he is set to join the Lions to bolster their content creation for a modern generation of football, though his romance for a different time rings through.

"It's an absolute honour for me. This club holds a special place in my heart, as it goes back to my youth watching the mighty Bears play at Carrara," he said.

"To me, sport has always been more than just a game - it's a way of bringing people together and creating positive change in society.

"Watching my kids Hope and Jed play junior Aussie rules footy constantly reminds me how the power of sport influences and shapes their lives.

"Being apart of the Lions Board will allow me to combine my love of the game and my skills and expertise to make a meaningful impact. I'm thrilled at the opportunity to have a positive influence on the Club and help shape its future."

Gibson also directed the six-part science documentary series First Weapons for the ABC, Black Fella Films and Inkey Media set for release in 2023.

Brisbane Lions chair Andrew Wellington said his contributions to the club will stretch further than his "skill set which is extremely valuable in this digital age" to provide more cultural diversity to those running the club.

Gibson also sits on the boards of Screen Queensland, Queensland Theatre, Griffith University Film School advisory board and the Essential Screen Skills industry advisory board.
